Sound Post 5

Due to the chilly weather, I found the hour walk to be just sufficient. I returned to the lot I parked in and walked into the nearby coffee place. At Stonecreek Coffee, I turned on my recorder and proceeded to buy my drink and find a seat. Wheezing drones of machinery in the kitchen, a phone ringing, the inaudible blurs of conversation, employees taking orders, the sounds of coffee cups being set down, bagels being unwrapped and background music is all heard. If you listen closely, there are two music tracks being played, the song with vocals, and a low, high-bass beat playing from another set of speakers.
Listen to what I've heard here.

Sound Post 4

As I was approaching a dead end that would lead up a hill and into a parking lot, I stopped before my ascent as I heard the sudden combination of sounds around me. At the beginning, what sounds like police sirens become audible but then quickly fade away. Crows are cawing alongside the faint sound of water running down into the storm drains. Some distance away, beyond the parking lot ahead, a car alarm is audible, and about halfway through the clip, right before the second brief police siren is announced, the warning beeps of a large vehicle backing up can be heard. Above all these, the sound of the trees being swayed by the wind is the most dominant. I found that it is the depth of these sounds in that area that caught my interest the most, almost as if they occurred in layers on each other.

Sound Post 3

After reaching a dead end after a couple of hours of drifting, I decided to call it a day and head back home. I walked down the train tracks that passed in front of me to the street I lived on, passing industrial buildings as I went. One particular factory that caught my attention, was one that I have always known but have never been so close to. For me it was always just a looming, metal frame structure on the horizon. At the time I arrived to it, it was in operation. With what, I am not sure, but all I saw was a suspended platform moving back and forth. The details were slightly obscured by my angle and the other parts of the structure that were in the way. Regardless, it was my first time seeing a part of that building in motion and the sound of its life I found interesting.

Sound Post 2

Due to the small area I seemed to be continuously passing through, I decided to change my Algorithmic walk strategy to 5th Left, 2nd Right, 3rd Right, and repeat. I obviously covered more areas and with greater success.
In this clip, there is a strange and almost eerie bird call that I have heard, alongside the music of wind chimes. The everpresent ambience of wind overlapping the sound of water running down gutters into the street and splashing down into the storm drain. I was glad, considering that it was mid afternoon, that there was very little traffic. Only a couple distant cars are heard in the distance.

Sound Post 1

After about a block's walk from my starting point, I found a series of sounds that seemed to have stood out from the rest of what I recorded for that first walk. I was following the 1st Left, 2nd Right, 2nd Left method, and it led me nowhere interesting. I kept finding my strategy taking me to busy streets and the same areas numerous times. I very much liked this recording, I went on my walk shortly after it stopped raining and found this storm drain. At first I was drawn to the water level in the drain and the rapid rate that it was filling. Shortly after I started making the recording, an ambulance siren became audible some distance away. The siren started from nothing, and slowly gained volume. I found this increase interesting, for the sound of the water flowing down the gutters and into the drain remained at a steady rate, while the siren and increasing in volume and proximity.

Drift Strategy

Strategy: Algorithmic Walk: 1nd Left, 2rd Right, 2nd Left
(Edit: Changed to 5th Left, 2nd Right, 3rd Right after first walk)
Considering that I live in the ever-pleasant West Allis, I believe that I shall start my adventurous Drift somewhere within my neighborhood, into the unknown, the nook and crannies that I rarely venture into to...
